The Ransom Everglades girls’ varsity lacrosse team won an impressive 14-2 game against the Key West Conchs on Saturday to continue their undefeated season. Ellie Dyke ‘21 was the game’s leading scorer with five goals, Sara Broad ‘23 followed with three, Maya Rego ‘21 scored two, and Brinson Cusack ‘21, Daniella Darcangelo ‘24, Georgia Crosby ‘21, and Jojo Peña ‘22 each scored one.

“It has been super fun because we have always had superstars,” Assistant Coach Ashley Cusack said about the high number of scorers. “But everyone is showing up and everyone is playing an important part of the team this year.”

In the opening five minutes of the first half, the Raiders led 3-0 and remained dominant on offense. This lead quickly doubled to 6-0 behind Broad’s three goals. The Conchs pushed back with one goal, which was quickly followed by an aggressive offensive push by the Raiders towards the end of the first half, which closed with a substantial RE lead of 12-1.

All my goals were assisted, so I think our lead had everything to do with the players coming off fast breaks, moving quickly off the draw, and looking for an open pass,” Broad said.

The tempo decreased in the second half for the Raiders as they spent time equally on offense and defense.

“We were extremely aggressive in the first half and then kind of laid off a little in the second half,” Coach Cusack said.

Rego and Dyke each scored early in the second half, which brought up the lead to 14-1. Key West scored in the closing minutes of the game, for a final score of 14-2.

“Our first half was significantly better than the second, but I was honestly surprised at how well we had capitalized on small things, like catching and passing the ball,” said Peña.

“This game was a huge marker in progress,” Broad said. “We really paid attention to the feedback from coaches and players and applied it really well and hope to do that in the next games.”

The Raiders are now 3-0 and will play the Gulliver Prep Raiders on Monday at 4:00 p.m.
