Inflation levels unseen for 40 years. Expensive groceries and gas. Millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. Deadly wars in both Ukraine and the Middle East.
Four years ago, President Trump was in the White House. Four years ago, none of these problems existed. The Harris-Walz ticket promises to continue the foolish policies that have led us to where we are now. The best argument for Trump is his record.
Trump oversaw an economy with a virtually perfect inflation rate of 2.5% and a record low unemployment rate of 3.5%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The stock market boomed, rising by 28.9% in 2017 alone. Through the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, his administration led a Republican-controlled Congress to slash taxes and lift burdensome regulations.
Trillions of dollars flowed into America, with $750 billion repatriated by multinational corporations in 2018 alone. Wages grew. Gas prices remained low. America was a net energy exporter.
The Trump era was an era of prosperity. And it was also an era of peace.
Under Trump, there were no new wars. America was respected in the world—whereas now, as RE alum Chuli Serra ’24 put it, “Our country is less safe. Period.”
Because Trump was tough and strategically unpredictable, and because he established preemptive deterrence, Putin didn’t invade Ukraine.
Under Trump, NATO paid up, with each member country finally contributing the agreed-upon 2% of GDP toward defense.
Trump prevented Germany from building Nord Stream 2, a Russia-dependent gas pipeline. The Biden-Harris Administration let it happen, making Europe dependent on Putin’s gas instead of ours – although they had no problem killing America’s own Keystone XL pipeline,

which would have given us more energy independence, in an attempt to look ‘green.’
Harris and Walz have no plan for Ukraine except to keep the money flowing.
When Putin invaded Ukraine, Biden and Harris had already proven their weakness. In May 2021, the administration authorized the disastrous withdrawal of our troops from Afghanistan. They left thousands of Americans behind, many hanging from planes. Billions worth of American weapons and supplies were handed over to the Taliban.
Now, Afghanistan is where it was 25 years ago, ruled by terrorists. And yet, Harris claims to be a champion of women’s rights.
Regional powers knew that Trump’s exit meant America’s wobbling, and unreliability, in the Middle East. The Harris-Biden team alienated Saudi Arabia, killing any chance of extending the Trump-era Abraham Accords, which aimed to normalize relations between Israel and Islamic countries. The region was bound for instability and uprising.
As Hamas and Israel continue to fight, thousands of Israeli and Palestinian civilians have perished because of a war prompted and influenced by a power vacuum that the Biden-Harris administration created.
And then there’s the terrifying situation at our border, which Harris and Walz want to keep wide open.
Under Border Czar Kamala Harris, illegal border encounters skyrocketed to 2 million per year in 2022 and 2023—the highest in U.S. history, according to statistics from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Recidivism rates have quadrupled since 2019.
As Kaitlyn Lemus ’27 put it, “We’re having violent gangs—MS-13—coming into our country, and so many terrible things are happening at our border. Under Trump, kids were safe.”
Ultimately, Harris’ platform is to raise taxes, spend like crazy, open our borders, and allow abortion in any circumstances, a radical view which the Trump campaign has countered by supporting things like IVF and common-sense exemptions through federal law for rape, threat to the mother’s life, and incest.
The Harris-Walz campaign and the left-leaning media both insist that if you don’t vote for their radical agenda, you must hate democracy itself. Meanwhile, they brag about the endorsement of the utterly hated (and undemocratic) Dick Cheney, the warmongering weirdo behind the devastating Iraq War.
That alone should indicate that they have no convictions. Harris has flipped every one of her policies for this election, from fracking to the border. Trump is the only candidate with a real record of leaving our country in a better place.
As Humanities Department Chair Ms. Nero says, “One of the things that people continually underestimate about Trump is his ability to identify issues that resonate, not only with his base, but with Americans at large.”
And Americans at large should sincerely look at the last 4 years – with Harris and Biden at the helm — and ask themselves what President Ronald Reagan asked the nation back in 1980 when he ran against Jimmy Carter:
“Are you better off now than you were four years ago?”
And, if you don’t think that this course that we’ve been on for the last four years is what you would like to see us follow for the next four, then I could suggest another choice that you have.”
Make no mistake: In the context of our time, in 2024, that choice is Donald Trump.
